The Junod, men of the bishopric of Basel, 1636
Men of Lignières allowed to carry arms (July 18, 1636)
(AEN, D 22, No. 12. "Role of men and families in the village of Lignières)
In the Middle Ages, the village of Lignières had two lords, the lords of Neuchâtel, and the bishop of Basel. Following a transaction of ... (probably the 1815 act of Vienna), the Bishop gave up all his rights on Lignières to the lord of Neuchâtel in exchange of the "collonges of Miécourt" in Ajoie (Canton of Jura).
In the absence of abundant documentation before this agreement, it is not always easy to know which families depended on Neuchâtel, and which others on the bishopric. To our knowledge, the following list is the only one to clearly enumerate and distinguish between the two parts of the population of Lignières. (Germain Hausmann).
