Other Junod origins researched

Canton of Graubünden

Riein

A line acquired the origin of the village of Riein in the canton of Graubünden, near Chur towards the end of the 17th, beginning of the 18th.

Research to determine their previous origin, either in the canton of Vaud or in that of Neuchâtel, was made difficult by the destruction of the village archives in the middle of the 19th century.

To date, no element allowing this line to be linked has been found.

Descendants live for most in Italy, France and in the USA.

Eternoz (France)

Eternoz

Surveys carried out in France, the USA or other countries indicate a Swiss origin of the JUNOD families in a fairly general way. For some Junod families residing in the USA, the fact that their ancestors emigrated to the USA after a stay in France - or by having simply crossed this country in order to embark in Le Havre - sometimes launched the legend of a French origin.

As for the JUNOT spelling, which can only be found in France, the origin of these families is not yet known to me. It is interesting to note that this spelling is much less widespread than that ending with the letter "D" and that a transcription error is possible, having noted this case (18th century), transforming a JUNOD into JUNOT.

In all likelihood, only one branch whose Swiss origin has not yet been confirmed to this date and is still the subject of research is that originating from Eternoz (Doubs), which dates back to around 1600s to Claude " Junoz "and which still has many descendants today.

This work is the result of extensive research carried out by Marie Thérèse Junod and Michel Junod.

Sainte-Croix (Vaud)

Sainte-Croix

The presence of the Junods in Sainte-Croix predates 1397 according to the Golden Book of Vaud Families (Lausanne, 1923, p.247).

Several works exist (source: Archives Cantonales Vaudoises - ACV) :

  • Raoul Campiche, Genealogical records on the old bourgeois families of Sainte-Croix, (ACV, P Campiche 131).
  • Genealogy of the middle-class families of Sainte-Croix 1500-1700, Bornand notary at the beginning of the 18th century before the fire in the parish registers (Sainte-Croix municipal archives or photo copy on microfilm at ACV, Ea 28).
  • Family names file known as the "Chastellain File" covering the period from 1561 to 1821 (microfilm - ACV, ZC 1).
  • Louis Junod published "Gens de Sainte-Croix and Gens de Bullet en 1550" in the Revue historique vaudoise 50, 1942, pp. 41-48, study established from the size of 1550 which gives the name and fortune of all the heads of families of the time (ACV, Bp 16), and which lists 15 households whose head of the family bears the name Junod , Genaud, Geneux or Genoud (these four names are not yet dissociable). A family tree would also be available, by the same author, at the ACVs.

I am not able to respond to requests related to this family, not having undertaken research on it - remaining focused on the Neuchâtel Junod families from which I come.

This being the case, the enthusiast who will have undertaken such research can contact me: willingly to insert a tree of the first generations and indicate a link to him (her).
